Parsonsfield Seminary 30
This black and white negative depicts a dirt driveway with many tall trees leading to a large building in the background. Off the driveway is a walkway with standing lamp where the walkway begins. The photographer's plate indicates that the building in the background is the Parsonsfield Seminary.
Originally a Free Will Baptist school (high school level), this seminary functioned as an educational institution from 1832 to 1949. However, the original seminary burned in 1853 due to a mysterious fire. The building in this picture appears to be the smaller building that was rebuilt in 1957. Participants at the Seminary were involved in the Abolitionist Movement and the Seminary was a stop on the Underground Railroad moving slaves safely to Canada.
