Seminary Hall. 29.
This black and white plate shows a large two-story white structure likely from the side with a round window in the area above the two stories. Attached is a cupola at the top of a tower that rises to three stories and has an entry door. The plate has a label stating this is Seminary Hall and indicates it is Plate 29.
Originally a Free Will Baptist school (high school level), this seminary functioned as an educational institution from 1832 to 1949. However, the original seminary burned in 1853 due to a mysterious fire. The building in this picture appears to be the smaller building that was rebuilt in 1957. Participants at the Seminary were involved in the Abolitionist Movement and the Seminary was a stop on the Underground Railroad moving slaves safely to Canada.
