View from seaward of the West Quoddy Head light at Lubec, Maine. The present structure was built by Capt. W.B. Franklin in 1858; the first light here was erected in 1808. This light is located in the Quoddy Head State Park, on the easternmost point of land in the continental United States. This scene taken from the water shows the distinctive red and white horizontally striped light tower with a one and one half story keepers house attached. At the left a little distance is another square structure with a center chimney. Toward the water at the right is a fenced in pasture and a small shed. The area is very wooded. This light is not to be confused with East Quoddy Light, located across the channel, on Canada's Campobello Island.
