Bass Harbor Head Light stands at the southwest corner of Mount Desert Island, marking the entrance to Blue Hill Bay and Bass Harbor, Maine. It was built by Capt. W.B.Franklin in 1858. The light and keeper's house are located within Acadia National Park. Set on the edge of a very rocky shoreline, the attached dwelling house is almost as tall as the light. A small ell is attached to the dwelling behind the lighthouse.
