Square Dancing 15
This image shows a room crowded with square dancers. The view is from slightly above the scene, as a curved line of couples swing their partners.
Japanes paper lanterns hang above them.
As the series progresses the participants appear increasingly at ease as they gain confidence.
Ruohomaa focusses on the process of learning and the sometimes awkward and unfamiliar proximity of neighbors and strangers. In this improvised dance hall Kosti finds his preferred subject matter: the folkways of ordinary people at work and as here, at play.
