Square Dancing 14
In this image of a room full of square dancers, couples form a line facing each other and slap hands patty-cake style while others sit the dance out and watch from the sidelines.
As the series progresses the participants appear increasingly at ease as they gain confidence.
Ruohomaa focusses on the process of learning and the sometimes awkward and unfamiliar proximity of neighbors and strangers. In this improvised dance hall Kosti finds his preferred subject matter: the folkways of ordinary people at work and as here, at play.
