Swimming Pool -- Belfast City Park -- Belfast, Maine C114
"Swimming Pool -- Belfast City Park -- Belfast, Maine C114" Waterfront, Belfast City Park, Swimming Pool, Buildings, People, Roadway In 1936, the WPA (Works Project Administration) rejuvenated the City Park by planting grass, resurfacing the drives, digging a well, building a sea wall as well as the salt water pool seen here. Sea water was pumped in from the bay to fill the pool. The pump house can be seen at the far end of the pool (low structure behind tree branch). On the left can be seen the park pavilion. The City Park Pavilion was originally located, along with clam baking ovens in an early park which was located at the foot of Condon Street. The pavilion was moved by a team of horses to its present location when it was decided to locate the City Park on the larger 15 acre parcel across from Mayor Edgar Hanson's Colonia Villa on Northport Avenue.
