[Kennedy Cottage Bar Harbor, Me. 604 6-19-19-26]

Kenarden Lodge, the 1892 Bar Harbor summer cottage of banker and railroad financier John Stewart Kennedy. The architects were Rowe & Baker of New York (architect Cornelius Baker was Mrs. Kennedy's nephew). The grounds were originally designed by Mrs. Kennedy and her Beatrix Jones Farrand. The house had a private electrical generating plant, which caused the house to be lit "like a fairy palace upon the water". After Mrs. Kennedy's death, the estate was purchased in 1933 by Mrs. John T. Dorrance, widow of the founder of Campbell's Soup. These original service buildings, including a charming pair of half-timbered gate houses, survive.
