"Somes Houses & Cottages, Somesville, Me. 2k." Waterfront, Coast, Beached Schooner, Town Scene, Buildings "View toward the Somes House from below the mill pond. I think the house at the very far right may still be in existence. The schooner is the two masted schooner Catherine, which was built at Ellsworth. During the first World War, she carried lumber from Somesville to Boston, and when she reached the end of her useful life she was put ashore at Somesville. It was here that John Singer Sargent painted her in 1921. Her timbers are still visible at low tide. Just over the Catherine is AC Fernald's store."--Willie Granston, 2011
