Dresden Ferry 47.
"Dresden Ferry 47. " Dresden Ferry, Waterway, People, Group Portrait Dresden Ferry 47. pre 1930 Until 1930 or 1931 Dresden residents and others relied on ferries to cross the Kennebec River to and from Richmond. Ferries from this landing also went to Swan Island, landing on the northeast end near the Tubbs house. Records from the early 1800s show people being "licensed to keep a ferry," usually in one direction while a second licensed ferry operated in the opposite direction. Other old Dresden photos show ferries being "sailed" with various cargoes such as oxen with a hay wagon, horses and buggies, and automobiles. The people on the ferry appear in another photo taken outside the Densmore House, a summer hotel in Richmond, indicating they were probably guests. Joseph Densmore, owner of the Densmore House, was a licensed ferry operator. Eleanor Everson
