Main St. Stonington Me. 39.

"Main St. Stonington Me. 39." Image of a street scene in the center of town with a man standing beside a horse-drawn buggy pulled up near a store. He appears to be about to unload goods to trade. Above is a sign reading: "Country Produce Exchanged for Goods". The view looks east toward the bend in Stonington's crooked Main Street, where Dr. Benjamin Lake Noyes' grand house, built in 1906, looms over the scene. As well as being a physician, Dr. Noyes, born in 1870, was an avid antiquarian and archivist who amassed a huge archive of genealogical and historical materials on the families of Deer Isle, Maine. He compiled the 43-volume "General History of Families of Deer Isle, Maine" before his death in 1945. [n.f. Muriel Hendrix, "Passionate collector preserved Deer Isle's genealogy, history'", The Working Waterfront, May 1, 2007. ]
