Textile, clothing: Chinese ladies' skirt
This silk skirt was made in China. The aqua silk brocade hangs from a plain cotton wraparound band. The brocade is woven with multicolored designs including a dragon, clouds, waves, and mythical birds. In the imagery are flying bats, which are a rebus for happiness. The imagery is only on the bottom half of the silk, with the expectation that a jacket would be worn over the top part. The trim is hemp with woven black lines creating a tesselated H-shape design. The skirt measures 46 x 34". This women's skirt has a matching bridal headdress (Object ID 1952.4.2). (head dress NEWCAT=1952.0004.002). Old number 635
