Piano Cover: red, embroidered in Japan

Piano cover made c. 1890. This red piano cover was embroidered in Japan on material selected in the United States by Mrs. Leroy Dow, and brought back with her on the ship THOMAS DANA in 1890. Cora Ella Eaton (1860-1945) brought material from the United States to Japan to be embroidered. She came back with a piano cover, dress cuffs, and a flannel petticoat. She also stopped in Ireland for lace cuffs. She sailed with her husband, Leroy Dow, aboard the ship THOMAS DANA on their honeymoon in 1890, acquiring many items to bring back to Searsport.
