Ernest Perkins Journal
Personal journal kept by Ernest W. Perkins describing his experience as a passenger aboard the Searsport barkentine MABEL I. MEYERS on a passage from Boston to Buenos Ayres in 1892. Perkins was an active and observant passenger. His detailed entries describe the ship, captain and crew; weather and observations on the ocean; Perkins's daily activites aboard; interactions with the captain, crew, and Perkins's fellow passenger; and comments on food, shanties, and other details of life aboard. Perkins illustrated his diary with pencil sketches and drawings of the crew, a chart of the MABEL I. MEYER's course, and views of prominent landforms they passed.
