Jacob A. Clifford Account Book
Account book kept by Captain Jacob A. Clifford of Owl's Head, Maine. Contains accounts for the schooners OLIVE AVERY, JOHN GERARD, SAMUEL W. BROWN, and JOHN M. FISKE, providing a detailed, if fragmentary, record of the activities of small vessels in the coasting trade. The volume records income from freight charges and the vessels' expenses for dock labor, supplies, towage, etc. For most of the voyages noted, Clifford was carrying lime from Rockland to ports in New England.
