Steamer 'May Archer" at Monhegan, Maine 2524
The steamboat MAY ARCHER is docked at Monhegan Island, Maine, in the early 1900s. She was built in 1906 at the Cobb-Butler Yard, Rockland, for Capt. Isaac Edson "Ed" Archibald of Thomaston. The Island Inn, built in 1907, sits at the top of the hill. A two-masted schooner is docked behind the steamer. MAY ARCHER provided regular summer service from Thomaston to Monhegan for several years and the inn was the destination of many vacationers. In the winter MAY ARCHER ran from Rockland to Northeast Harbor, Mount Desert. Capt. Archibald owned a number of steamers.
