Steamboat SAMOSET

These boats carried summer vacationers from northeast states to Bar Harbor, Maine, from 1910 until the early 1930s. This steel hull boat was built at Philadelphia in 1897 and named VANSCIVER. In Maine she served as a shuttle from Mt. Desert Ferry to Bar Harbor. In 1918 the U.S. Navy tdok her for several years, mostly in Boston Harbor. In 1922 she returned to commercial use as a freighter named EVERGLADES. In 1927 she was converted to passenger service with a diesel engine in Tampa, Florida. From 1930 to 1934 she was in New York City. This ship was 103.3 ft. long with a 23 ft. beam and rated 146 gross tons.
