Steamboat PIONEER
PIONEER was known as the first and slowest steamboat running from Rockland, Maine, to Vinalhaven. Built in 1864 at Portsmouth, NH, she was operated by the Fox Island and Rockland Steamboat Co. from 1867 to 1892. She later worked in Boston Harbor, delivering gasoline and water. In November 1915 she was carrying coal and sank off Marblehead, MA.
