Steamboat MOOSEHEAD

MOOSEHEAD was the queen of the steamboat fleet owned by Maine Central Railroad. She ran from Rockland, Maine, to Bar Harbor providing luxury summer service. Built at Bath in 1911, she was 185.3 ft. long with a beam of 35.8 ft. and draft of 13.9 ft. Her twin engines had 2400 hp and she was rated atd 677 gross tons. During World War 1 she served the U.S. Navy. A later owner named her PORPOISE. In the 1930s she was called MAYFLOWER and sailed between Bridgeport, CT and New York City. In World War II she was operated by the U.S. Army and named COL. WILLIAM .B. CORWIN. She was lost off Boston on Decmeber 17, 1941.
