Steamboat MONHEGAN

MONHEGAN was a steamboat built in 1903 at the Cobb-Butler yard in Rockland, Maine, for Capt. I. E. "Ed" Archibald. He owned several boats for service between Rockland, Friendship, and Portland. In 1906 he sold MONHEGAN to his large competitor, the Eastern Steamship Co. In 1917 she was sold to a Rhode Island company. In 1938 she was wrecked at a Providence pier during a hurricane, but she was rebuilt. Her life ended as a dine and dance club at Rocky Point, R.I. Her original dimensions were 128 ft. length and 26.7 ft. beam.
