Steamboat BOOTHBAY

The iron hull steamboat BOOTHBAY was built in 1907 at Philadelphia for work on the Kennebec River in Maine. She was found to be too large for the river at 126 ft. long with a 33 ft. beam and 600 hp, so in 1909 was moved by the Eastern Steamship Corp. to Rockland, where she ran to Blue Hill and Bar Harbor. From 1918 to 1931 she was in government service. In 1932 she was in Virginia and called GRAMPUS. In 1933 she was DEEPWATER. In 1938 she started tours from Manhattan to the Statue of Liberty and named LIBERTY. She went back to government service during World Was II. After the war she received a diesel engine and returned to the Statue of Liberty tours.
