The 36' 0" Bahama sloop UNITY B designed and built in 1950 by Alfred Bain in Lisbon Creek, Bahamas on her mooring. View of deadeyes and blocks for standing rigging. This photo was taken on a shoot that Ben Mendlowitz arranged for his Calendar of Wooden Boats, and were taken at Lisbon Creek in Andros, Bahamas. Most are of Alfred Bain's sloop UNITY B that I wrote about in WoodenBoat magazine, issue #81, using some of the colored photos that Ben took. UNITY B, a typical Andros sloop that Alfred Bain modeled and built, was on the cover of #81. I thought she was lovely in shape and proportion as are many of the local boats, both sloops and sailing dinghies. UNITY B. had just arrived back home from harvesting conchs at Grassy Cay, 20 or so miles south of her home at Lisbon Creek. She usually carried a crew of three or four, including owner Alfred Bain. Ben had contacted him earlier, so we were invited onboard that evening. - Maynard Bray 2022
