"Mrs. M. correcting papers. This is a job she must do after her regular teacing hours end at three o'clock. She also must plan for the future months work. Another after school job is jotting down an anecdotal record which is kept on every child in which the child's characteristics and traits are kept." [Ruohamaa, pink sheets, p.3] The photoessay follows a day in life of teacher and principal Doris MacDougal at the McLain Grammar School in Rockland, Maine. The essay focuses on the challenge of managing increasing class sizes as post-war baby boom starts to overwhelm schools across the country. The article illustrates both MacDougal's teaching and administrative responsibilities, with a bit of homelife at the end. Selected photos from this group were used in an article for Pageant magazine: Ruohomaa, Kosti. “Your Children’s Other Mother.” Pageant, Nov. 1951, pp 51-57.
