"Mrs. M. with reading group. She divides reading groups dependent upon the reading ability of the children. In this case they are reading a story about Lappland and she has brought out the globe to point out to the children the geographical location of Lappland." [Kosti Ruohamaa, pink sheet, 1951] The children are reading from "If I Were Going", part of the "Alice and Jerry" series, which follows a sister and brother (and their dog Jip) through a series of adventures. "If I Were Going" is a third grade reader." The essay focuses on the challenge of managing increasing class sizes as post-war baby boom starts to overwhelm schools across the country. The article illustrates both MacDougal's teaching and administrative responsibilities, with a bit of homelife at the end. Selected photos from this group were used in an article for Pageant magazine: Ruohomaa, Kosti. “Your Children’s Other Mother.” Pageant, Nov. 1951, pp 51-57.
