Beaver trapper Harry Graham attaches a beaver trap to a field-cut cedar pole; warden Tom Sprague observes. The trap hole opens into the frigid water in front of them; the bristling mound of the beaver lodge looms behind them. The law dictated that the trap hole must be at least 25' from the lodge. Graham's woven pack basket on the ice near him was likely built to a design inspired by traditional Native American baskets.
