On-board salt water ice machines. "Two on-board salt water ice machines from IMCOA provide the coolilng capacity for the HALE-KOA, a new packer built in Oregon this spring for Bud Via of Seattle. Each is a five ton machine. The ice is mixed with sea water in the closest of three holds. The mixture is then pumped, as needed, to the other holds by the Ryan wet fish pump. Having had a similar system on an earlier vessel, owner Via stuck with it because it has worked well for him. (April 1983 --Photo by Bruce Buls)."
