In his shop, builder Bud Hoy holds up a model showing the curvature and placement of MORNING STAR's complex bow plates. This aluminum dragger was the first vessel Hoy built using digital lofting. The 57' aluminum dragger MORNING STAR was designed by Fred Barfuet and built by Bud Hoy of Hoy's Marine in Newport, Oregon, in 1995. [NF ref July '96, pp. 28-30]
