Image of an observation* passenger railroad car, identified by the painted name "Belfast & Moosehead Lake" above the windows at a crossing. In this case this end carriage is attached to a line of freight cars. A conductor in a white cap stands on the canopied "porch" of the car's tail, smiling and waving at someone out of the frame. * A type of railroad passenger car, generally operated in a passenger train as the rearmost carriage, with windows or a platform on the rear of the car for passengers' viewing pleasure. This is one of a series of photographs staged to be used for an article in Life Magazine in 1950.
