In the foreground is a stove which has a panel behind it to protect the wall from the heat of the stove. It appears that the stove was an afterthought as the panel behind it is somewhat haphazardly installed, blocking a window. This is one of a series of photographs staged to be used for an article in Life Magazine in 1950
