The Summit House and observation tower on top of Mt. Battie, Camen, Maine prior to renovations. The hotel was built by Columbus Buswell in 1897, and was a popular tourist destination. The property was purchased in 1899 by the Mt. Battie Association, a corporation of citizens who wanted to preserve the mountain as a park and protect it from further development. They remodeled the building and renamed it the Mt. Battie Clubhouse, and it was open to the public as a summer hotel until it was torn down in October 1920. A stone tower was constructed in its place and dedicated on August 20, 1921 to the men of Camden who died in World War I.https://camdenarea.pastperfectonline.com/photo/B9E37D9C-DF17-4066-A5D1-037239397626
