Horse-drawn carriage with threee rows of passenger seats being pulled by team of four horses in front of the Bay View House, Camden, Maine. The Bay View House, the major hotel in Camden in the early part of the 20th century, burned down Nov. 12, 1917. "The fire was discovered by a passerby at about 6:30 A.M., and it had such a head start that smoke was pouring out of the attic at that time. . . . The slate roof confined the flames for a while; but when the roof collapsed, the flames leaped high in the air. Abetted by a northwest wind, the flames threatened the nearby Baptist church for a while. Five streams of water were poured onto the structure, and the fire was soon under control," as reported in John Williams's "History of Camden, Maine." The site is now Camden's Village Green https://knox.villagesoup.com/opinion/historic-photo-the-bay-view-house-fire/article_178dc637-834f-5095-bc6c-1ea83d4e3c84.html
