From collection J. E. Perkins Collection
Untitled
Image of a photograph of a man and three women in an open carriage with one horse hitched. Visible in image: The original picture is affixed to a rough wooden surface with nails. It shows an older man with mutton-chop whiskers and three women wearing brimmed hats seated in a light carriage--possibly a four-passenger phaeton. The man holds the reins to the single horse. Two of the women have lap blankets, and all three sport the voluminous shoulders that were in style for most of the 1890s, placing the original photograph somewhere between 1890 and 1900. One woman's hat is decorated with flowers, while another's appears to be tied about her face and under her chin with a sheer fabric. Caption on negative sleeve/reverse of print: "011--4 people in horse wagon" in pen on negative sleeve, in a more modern hand than on original Perkins collection negative sleeves. The location and the identity of the people in this photograph are not presently known.
