Image of four young women sitting on the front steps of an elaborate house. Visible in image: Four young women sit on the front steps of a Queen Anne (revival)-style house. The quartet wear straw hats decorated with ribbons and flowers. Two wear patterned blouses and dark skirts, one wears a blouse slightly lighter than her dark skirt, and the fourth is dressed in a pleated-front blouse and skirt of medium tone. Their puffed sleeves were the style of the mid-to-late 1890s. Two women hold hands and one holds an umbrella. The use of hands and props, placement of the women on the steps, and range of gazes and facial expressions give the appearance of a posed photograph The house behind them bears many ornamental details, including scalloped shingling, and geometric figures cut into the facade below the porch decking. A tower on the left and a bay window on the right both feature curved panes of glass. The front stairs on which the women sit lead down to a board sidewalk. The exact date and location of this photograph and the identity of these young women are not currently known.
