COURTNEY C. HOUCK

Image of the five-masted schooner COURTNEY C. HOUCK at the G. G. Deering shipyard, Bath, Maine. Visible in image: The schooner COURTNEY C. HOUCK probably shortly after launch, with flags (including signal flags) flying from all masts and sails furled and covered. It is difficult to discern any people on deck. The five-masted schooner COURTNEY C. HOUCK, 1,627 tons, was built by G. G. Deering, Co. in Bath, Maine and launched in 1913. After being abandoned at sea in a storm in 1926, she was eventually recovered and brought to Boothbay Harbor, Maine in 1930. Being judged not worth repairing, she was laid up in Mill Cove and left to rot. Cataloger's note: This is a copy negative on film of a print of a photograph by James E. Perkins. A duplicate copy negative is cataloged as LB2009.13.517. The identity of the copyist and the date at which the copy was made are not certain.
