Schooner ANNIE C. ROSS
Schooner ANNIE C. ROSS built by Percy and Small and launched on October 3, 1917. In 1954 she was bought by a scouting organization intending to use her as a training vessel. The scouting organization was still raising money for their project when the Annie C. Ross sank at her moorings in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York on September 4, 1955. She was the last of the Percy and Small-built schooners to perish. In this photo, Schooner ANNIE C. ROSS of Boston, aground near Pensacola. In the distance is another schooner aground, the ROBERT E. DEAN (possibly BEAN according to a different reference) of Thomaston, Maine. The ANNIE C. ROSS saw the distress flares of the other schooner and mistook them for the Pensacola Light. All hands of both crews were rescued. This event occured on Feb. 16, 1926
