Main St., Nichols, N.Y. 337.
View from an intersection in a small dowtown, including a large, three-story brick block on the corner, and smaller frame commercial buildings. Sidewalk pedestrians walk by early motor cars parked angled-in to the curbs. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street. The ca. 1880 brick George P. Cady Block dominates the busy retail hub of downtown Nichols, New York. It's a warm summer day, and awings shade the strorefronts. Visible retail business signs read: Kodaks Jewelers, and Lathrop & Whitcomb.
