Blue Bell Service Station, Hunter, N.Y. 437
View of a roadside gas station with early motor cars in a rural, mountainous setting. The Blue Bell Service Station occupies a picturesque building in a scenic spot. The facility was likely one of several built to take advantage of automobile tourism beginning after the turn of the 20th century in the Catskill mountains. The business offers a gas pump and two garage bays, and is decorated with the various major auto manufacturer's logo signs to advertise its versatility. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street.
