Red, White and Blue Cabins--Route 201, Richmond, Maine F31C
Red, White and Blue Cabins--Route 201, Richmond, Maine F31C Image shows the Red, White and Blue guest cabins and a larger building to the right which may be the office. The cabins are tiny, with gambrel roofs to make them appear larger. In front are four trees which form a sort of gateway into the cabin grounds. The size of these cabins suggests they were part of a hunting or fishing camp, meant to accomodate one or possibly two men, and not the "housekeeping cabins" marketed to families. Beginning in the 1880s, the pursuit of fishing and hunting as popular recreation lead to the Maine tradition of the sporting camp in a remote wilderness setting.
