Bridge Across Penobscot River, Orono, Maine D616
Image of the highway bridge (US Route 2 / Main St.) spanning the Stillwater River in Orono, Maine. The date of the photograph, the design of the bridge and its light fixtures, and its raw embankments indicate its recent completion at the time the photograph was taken. The title of the image is incorrect; the bridge carries Orono's Main St. (US Rt. 2) over the Stillwater River. The size of the river and lack of any bridges over the Penobscot River in the area corroborate this. In 2010 the structure was named to honor Staff Sergeant Brandon M. Silk, an Orono native who was killed while serving in Afganistan.
