Mature trees tower over the scene. The "Weathervane" was a restaurant and tourist cottage that catered to tourists en route in the region. Roadside eateries such as this sprang up along state routes before and after World War II, as American families hit the road in their automobiles seeking out summertime vacation spots. In time most of them were superceded by the interstates and their attendant services.
