Penobscot Bay Camps, Searsport Avenue, Belfast, ME Office with sign over door "Penobscot Bay Overnight Camps". Many cabins, gas pump and ocean beyond with Steele's Ledge monument visible. The Penobscot Bay Camps were located on Searsport Avenue (U. S. Route 1) in Belfast. In addition to the cottages, the Camps featured a tea room (at far right) and a recreation area. To the left of the office is a gas pump featuring Socony gas. "The Monument" which marks the location of Steele's ledge can be seen to the left of the utility pole. Originally placed there in 1828, it was washed away as was its replacement. The present structure dates to 1888.
