EIP Steamship series. Steamship SAPPHO underway. Built especially for summer service from Mt. Desert Ferry to Bar Harbor. Figured in the disaster at Mt. Desert Ferry on August 6, 1899, when a crowd of sightseers rushing from the train to board the two steamers waiting there caused the gangway to collapse. Twenty lives were lost. AfterWorld War I. she was sold couth and her name was changed to PAWTUCKET. In WORld WAR II the government took her diesel engine and installed it in a patrol boat.
