Beaver Tail, Belfast, Maine 1177

Beaver Tail, Belfast, Maine. Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad going along the river toward Waldo. Old bridge across the Passagassawakeag River is in the near ground beyond the fence. Approximately one mile north of the railroad station in Belfast is the area known locally as Beaver Tail. The bar protruding into the water near the center of the photo is shaped like a beaver's tail, thus, the name. The tracks of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad heading toward Burnham Junction, some 33 miles distant, where it would connect with the Maine Central Railroad, can be seen rounding Beaver Tail.
