Browns Store, Stephentown, N.Y. 24.

View of motorists stopped in front of a house which has been converted to a store. A large cloth sign hangs on a line strung high across the road. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to cover New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street. The charming scene, more spontaneous than most of the Eatern's images, captures a moment when a famiy in an open touring car has stopped at Brown's Store. At the left, a man in shirtsleeves and a driver's cap stands with another man wearing overalls. Partly visible behind them is The Eastern Illustrated Company's car, identified by its logo on the storage box. The hanging sign announces to approaching motorists "Gasoline, Oils & Motor Supplies".
