This wide angle landscape shows the bridge on Main Street (now US Route 1) running west to east, with the Middle River flowing past it into the Machias River in the foreground. The buildings on the western side are predominantly commercial, while the on eastern side, more sparsely developed, we see homes and a large workshop of some kind. The hip roofed building behind the bridge was probably a mill.
