The Broadway Inn in Machias, Maine was orignally a farmhouse, a rambling wooden structure with multiple dormers and a large ell connecting it to a barn. The front and one side of the house are shown here; the building sits on a dirt road outside of town in the Downeast countryside. Large elms stand in the front yard, and a kitchen garden is visible at left. This view is very similar to LB2010.9.120253. As with another pair of photos in this series—LB2010.9.120249 and LB2010.9.120251—these two were taken at different times. In this later photo, the ell has been renovated to create second-floor rooms, as evidenced by the windows shown here but absent from the related image. Here, the grounds are tidier, and the paint applied to the elm trunks has faded in comparison to the earlier photo.
