A view of the car ferry VALCOUR loaded with cars appoached the Burlington waterfront on Lake Champlain. The M. V. VALCOUR was built at Shelbourne Harbor, Vermont and completed in the spring of 1948. Her maiden voyage was July 2, 1948 on a run from Burlington, Vt. to Pt. Kent, N.Y. across Lake Champlain. Named after the famous naval battle on Lake Champlain at Valcour Island between the American patriots and the British on October 11, 1776. She is 190 feet long, 447 gross tons, powered with four 350 H. P. diesel engines. Capacity 55 cars on main deck. Passenger lounge, souvenirs, gifts and restaurant below.
