Saco Lowell Shops Activities Association -- Saco Maine C79
Image of a row of 1940's automobiles parked in front of a Neo-Classical building. Saco Lowell Shops was a major manufacturer of textile machinery. Their operations spanned Saco and Biddeford, and, at the height of the company's production in 1925, were also in Lowell and Newton, Massachusetts. Presumably, this image shows the yard's facility for employees' recreational use. The image is striking for its clean portrayal of 1940s motor vehicles juxtaposed with the severe architecture of the building's facade, and the echoes of the curved car roofs in the arched window openings.
