Tripp's Cabins - Ocean Park Rd - Saco, Maine D476
View across a road of a line of tiny vacation cabins sheltered by trees. Tripp's Cabins was probably one of the scores of seasonal family resorts which developed during the early 20th century along the coast, lake and mountain areas of inland Maine. By 1920, the ubiquity of the family automobile, and a decade later, the paving of state roads, encouraged the idea of the car vacation. The cabins, which usually had a tiny kitchen and could accomodate a family of three or even four, offered families an affordable alternative to the old-fashioned hotel stay.
