Card's Garage, Edmeston, N.Y. 53

Scene of an early gas station and auto repair shop housed in a wood frame building. The office is at right. In the garage bay opening, two men flank a car that is parked halfway in. Above them and the sign "Card's Garage", a woman gazes out the window; all look at the camera. At the left is a truck loaded with milk cans. An early gas pump stands out front on the roadside. A variety of signs advertising local as well as national automobile product brands, litter the front of the building and the site: "Fisk Tires/ United States Tubes Sales & Service Depot/ Overland/ Cadmel Snubbers/ Gulf Tactor Oil/ Texaco. This image is part of a series made by one of the three Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Company photographers assigned to New England or upstate New York. The glass plates would be sent back to Belfast, Maine, and processed into postcards at the printing plant on High Street.
